Freelandering questions - any advice/feedback very welcome from potential buyer

Posted by Barry McGill (Australia) on October 14, 1998 at 20:55:04:

Lots of questions which should be easily ansered by current oweners of Freedlander models.

Q1. Is the 3dr softback option road noise acceptable (i.e. low wind noise and can still hear people and CD-player) on longer (>2 hour) trips when the softcovers are sealed. How noisy when unsealed ?(I know this is a constant complaint about the Jeep Wrangler - which I found very 'unrefined')

Q2. How does the 1.8 Pertrol perform (on-road) compared with the likes of the Suzuki and RAV4 models? i.e. is it responsive at say 80-100km when you plant your foot?

Q3. Is there a bigger motor version due in Australia (i.e. 2.5 Ltr)?, and is the 1.8i petrol motor well refined and quiet?

Q4. Has anyone mounted a surfboard on the top of their 3dr softback by using a rack of any kind?

Q5. Are there two canopies on the 3dr softback? Can each one be opened individually? Does it provide that 'open air' experience when both (assuming there are two) covers are removed? Is the T bar infact the rollcage-bar?

Q6. How much legroom for rear passengers? And is there any space behind the back seats for luggage?
