I see you found the bayou rover web site!
I don't have much experience with this topic, hence the posts, but I understand that the rotor position is very critical to correct timing from what I have read. If the rotor is not lined up with cylinder #1 the timing will be off. That's why you need to fit the distributor after you have turned the engine to 6 degrees BTDC for #1 cyl or else it will not run. Then you need to either set timing with a light or 'by ear'. Please correct me if I am wrong.
