Good advice from the manager at our local 4x4 tyre depot, do not use pressure washers since they turn the dirt into high speed grit blasters.
I use motorcycle cleaner in hand spray form (not aerosol), with a soft nylon brush or paint brush you can clean all the nooks and crannies, then wash off with a garden hose.
It works fine on bikes, because they use lots of lacquered aluminium and is very gentle with the alloys on my Land Rover. Made by Auto Glym, but maybe only sold in UK?
