I had the same quandary about a year ago. I had heard the stories as well, but I thought the same as M.G. it must be B.S., they cant all be bad.
I appreciated there is alot of machinery compared to your average saloon car, so regular servicing is needed. I bought mine ('93 Disco) with full documented service history, after getting it checked by someone who knew more than me.
I wished I'd done it years ago! Buy and enjoy.
