If it was just a "bolt on" conversion, then you can easily reverse the process but if engine mounts have been cut, or the firewall modified, then things will be more difficult to reverse. The old 2.25 petrol is a good solid (if thirsty) engine (probably more thirsty than the V8), the later diesels are OK but the 2.25 diesel is less than wonderful. It is VERY NOISY and no great performer and it hates being rushed along at more than about 40 mph!! If you are after a "restoration" then you need an original engine. If you want a usable vehicle, then the V8 or one of the later diesels may be the way to go though the 2.25 petrol will be OK of you are not in a hurry and can afford the petrol. It will be the cheapest conversion and the 2.25 petrol can be "warmed up" with head work and carby changes. Michael
