The pre-200/300tdi diesels were mainly 2.5 blocks, derived from the original 2.25 engine. The non-turbo charged 2.5 diesel is quite reliable but the turbo-version was prone to problems. Adding an intercooler (and injecting more fuel to get performance up) will put additional strain on it. It's better not to boost performance on the old 2.5 blocks but accept the (poor) performance. Otherwise, a 200tdi transplant is rather straightforward (some "minor" modifications are required to the turbo positioning, ...)
