| Brake Hydraulic Problem Posted by Barry Calhoon on July 21, 2002 at 22:41:48: I am from the Midwest and have just arrived in Colorado for my yearly activities around the area. On the way here I something went a little weird with the brakes… I’m pretty sure it’s in an area I’ve not had experience in, hence the post… There was an electrical smell emanating from an unknown area that was followed by a extreme drop in brake performance. The main problem was a large increase in pedal travel that felt like a huge decrease in pressure. Upon stopping, looking over everything, and getting out the books I brought, I could find nothing wrong. Upon restarting to confirm the absence of the ABS light, the problem went away… The brakes and pads are very new, fluid is full, and there are no apparent leaks... I then found a small reference in the owners manual about the brake hydraulic circuit that has a redundant backup circuit that takes over in the event of the main circuit failing. There is also supposed to be a decrease in braking… There is a very minute drop in performance. I can’t find a way to confirm that this is/was in fact the problem and/or check the circuit in question… I’m also concerned whether I should trust the backup on trails… Anyone who knows more about this than I? Advice greatly appreciated... |
