Hi John,

I have a '99 DII auto V8 and have experienced oil dripping out of the drain hole at the bottom of the bell housing. It is a common problem for the V8 to leak from the rear mail oil seal. As your dealer about the "cross seal" - the shape of the oil seal is like the outline shape of a cross.

If your oil is leaking out from your bell housing, it's this seal that's most likely to be leaking. This is a 2-day job as the bell housing needs to be removed.

And if there's any consolation in telling you this, I've had mine leak at around the 40,000km mark but after it was fixed, the engine has been leak free ever since. I suspect that using 100% synthetic engine oil has probably caused some of my oil leaks as I don't have problems with the semi synthetic or fully mineral oils.
