Factory Hardtop TO Softtop w/ Full Roll Bar

Posted by Nicholas Orros on July 06, 2002 at 22:35:43:

There are 2 hardtops that i know of; the black fiberglass hardtop and the aluminum factory installed body color matching with with top, correct?

Now, has anyone installed a soft-top & additional rollbars while having say a NAS 1995 Defender 90, that doesn't come standard with the additional rear roll-bar and the two matching roll-bar pieces? If so, what was the cost for the pieces and how long did it take?

I guess the switch would go in this order:

1. Take hardtop off (if so, in any order, what bolts? does it all come off in one piece?

2. Install rollbar in rear & perpendicular attachments.(?)
if so, how hard? costs?

3. Install soft top. (Are there any runner pieces that have to be drilled before installation, like a Jeep?

I'm pretty sure I'd have to get a new rear door as well. The one that's on there is the full door that i don't believe is on the softtop.

And what happens when you want the factory roof back on? Is there any type of seal or rubber that needs to be put on frame first?
Can you put the hardtop back on with the FULL rollcage installed? (this question i've seen, and have gotten 2 different results, very important.)

Has anyone done this specifically from a Defender SW ?
How much was the total cost & time expenditure?

Thank you,

Nicholas Orros
