At that sort of mileage, the most likely cause of noise is the shaft bearings. They dry out. Also the brushes will probably be about worn out.(No noise, but you lose the output when they finally go). I suppose an exchange reconditioned unit is about the best option, but that depends on local availability etc.
I've managed to silence noisy bearings on alternators before by taking off the pulley and squeezing a little grease into the front bearing (this bearing takes most of the load).If you intend to keep the vehicle for a while, it would probably be wise to do the job properly.
