92 RANGE ROVER- MASSIVE COOLANT LOSS- OVERHEATING-RES. CAP ?

Posted by CHUCKC on July 03, 2002 at 04:57:43:

Would greatly appreciate any advice/ help. Had an incident here in Hawaii w/ my 92 Range rover (70k mi.) During run temp. gauge skyrocketed and low coolant warning came on. let cool and added more than a gallon of coolant (50/50 mix) and creeped to mechanic. Mechanic advises pressure test revealed no prob. w/ radiator or hoses but that I am either losing the fluid from the coolant reservoir and/or the cap atop the reservoir. his advice to replace both. has anyone had an experience w/ a cap gone bad or a coolant reservoir leaking ? Is there any way to avoid paying retail plus for these items ? Thank You !
