Is you're getting a speed sensor code and the speedo is not working it is virtually a certainty that the problem is NOT just in the speedo. Here's your matrix --
1) No speedo, no ss (i/e ss code on readout and C/Engine light). Probably the drive cable to ss box under the vehicle. Very small chance it's a mechanical thing inside the ss box itself.
2) Speedo OK, no ss. Probably the wiring broken or pulled out at the ss box, with a small chance that it might be a disconnected connector or a poor connection at the ECM.
3) No speedo, ss OK. Either a broken or disconnected upper cable or problem in speedo itself.
