I'm the commander of the Marine Security Guard detachment in Algiers, Algeria. Parked in the motor pool is a 1985 Range Rover with 107,000 KM on it. I have no info on it other than it was bought in the UK in 1985. The motor pool chief says the engine is fine, but the clutch went out.
Need help on the following:
-How to determine the engine model and other model info
-Any tips on getting it running, near as I can tell, it has sat for two years in the same place
-How hard (and expensive) would it be to get it up to par for emissions and such in order to bring it back to the U.S.A

This thing has me quite intrigued. With the security situation here in Algiers, I am pretty much restricted to the compound and am antsy to find something to do. If I can get it up and running, the embassy could sell it to me and I could put it on a ferry to France.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I have always owned American 4X4's, but have been bitten by the Rover bug.
