I assume you're trying to connect a mechanical winch to the engine of a Series vehicle (2.25 engine). As a standard, the engine is equipped with a starterdog. This starterdog needs to be unscrewed and replaced with a the nut that is supplied with the mechaniscal winch. (If mising, these nuts are difficult to find - mine looks like a tube (1 inch diameter) with two slits in it). The reason is simple to understand : A standard starter dog is carved to turn the engine and you need a dog that is turned by the engine.
