G'day

I have a 93/94 and I have had it about 2 years. It had about 41,000km on it when we bought it and it now has 113,000km. Apart from a minor gas leak at the turbo (it is a diesel), and routine servicing, it has been totally reliable. I spend quite an amount of time on bad dirt roads and it is great. Stable, quick, comfortable and reliable.

The Discovery is really a reincarnation of the original Range Rover with different skin and a few items deleted and many updated. The original Range Rover was (is) one of the greatest designs of all time. I like them so much I am about to buy a 1975 model as a restoration project and it will hold its own with vehicles 20 years its junior. The V8 Discovery of today can trace its lineage back to that great 1970 design.

While you may hear some horror stories, I can tell you similar Toyota, Nissan, Diahatsu etc stories. The Discovery is basically a very sound design, built to reasonable standards.

One final piece of advice - choose your dealer as carefully as your car. Should anything need to be fixed, it is best to have a dealer you can trust to do the job.

Servicing is not a great problem here in Australia. Parts are readily available and the vehicle is not so comples as to require special attention. The V8 with EFI does, however have a computer engine management system, and your service centre will need to know the codes should an error occur. You can easily fix this by buying the manuals which are available at quite reasonable prices.

Good luck - and all the best

Michael
