Grover,

I find it great the you posted almost the same message that I wanted to. I have really been trying to figure out what I want to do as far as purchasing another 4x4.

I would really recommend that you get a 1996 rather than a a 1995 Discovery as all that I have read about pre 1996 is not all bad but there seems to be a few more problems with them rather that 1996 and newer.

I have a 1969 Series ll A Landrover 88" that I am in the process of restoring. I have loved Landrovers for a long time and have just recently had the chance to aquire this one. I have wanted a Discovery for quite awhile now also. I just purchased a 1998 Jeep Cherokee and I have been very pleased with it. This is my wife's car and I find it a little short on room for me as I am about 6' tall the ride is also much more choppy than the Discovery. The Discovery is really nice as far as room and the 4x4 capabilities are much better on it. The ride is also like a dream.

I am still undecieded about my purchase as my budget limits me to the pre 1996 Disco's. And as I said before I just do not feel all that comfortable with those years. Another thing that I have a hard time with is the fact I am going to purchase a vecicle with around 50000 miles on it, give or take 10000 miles. The Jeep that I purchased had 200 miles on it when I bought it for about the same money. This is a tough one. I have also considered a Jeep Wrangler, although it is really too small inside and the rear passengers are cramped and not very safe.

I know that they are two completely different 4x4's but I want my purchase to be a wise one. Another thing to consider is the gas economy on the Disco. You will get around 16MPG. My Jeep gets around 20MPG. This is not that big of a difference, but enough to make you think about it. In the long run I think that the full time 4wd on the Discovery is more of a benifit than the gas milage that you lose. I have heard there is alternate after market ingnition systems for Disco's that boast around 22MPG after installed. I know if I owned one I would most certainly install this alternate system.

Also, this site is a great information bank, I would strongly recomend that you browse all of the posted messages that you can, they are very informative. It does take awhile for them to all to download but it is well worth the wait.

Let me know what you decide. I would love to hear any additional comments from you or anyone on this subject.

Pondering a Purchase,
Eric
