the oil light warns of low oil pressure (not oil level). The light goes on when the pressure is too low to lubricate the motor above idle speed.
If you have an oil pressure guage, check the reading when the light comes on. If the guage reads OK, then the light (or its switch screwed into the block) may be faulty (but this is unlikely).
As for what else it could be, you need to post more info- when does it happen? is it on all the time? or only when idling? only just after starting? what engine do you have? how many Kms(miles)?
