Step 1: - if you have a second key, check against your key. If your key is worn that can cause the problem - very common

Step 2: - interlocks in key barrel are sticking. Get some graphite powder (in handy squeeze bottle available at most Hardware stores) and puff down the key slot and on the key.
Slide key in and out 10 to 20 times then try turning
May take 3 or 4 graphite applications.

Step 3: replace barrel.

Steps 1 and 2 normally cure the problem.
