John, the Model Year of your vehicle is contained in the 10th digit of the VIN (I'm assuming your's is a UK vehicle from your email address)

From 1979 to 1984 all Landrover VINs age codes were 'A', however at the start of the 1985 Model Year (around Sept/Oct 1984) this changed to a 'B' and changed by 1 letter (with some variations) every year from that point on.

A full list of VIN decodes up to and including the 2002 Model Year is available on 'The Specialist' section of our website.

For a more accurate date then you should contact Eric Pagan at Landrover Traceability who will be able to give you the exact date of manufacture (you will need to send a copy of your V5 too).

His details are:

Mr. E. Pagan
