Re: Jacobs Ignition Kit

According to the info. I got from Jacobs w/the kit I put on my '95 Disco., plug gap needs to be increased at least about +.010;Autolite, Champion and NGK copper core plugs are the ones they recommend. As far as the Jacobs system itself, it continued to cause a check engine light problem on my '95 Disco. (3.9) showing up as code 48 which is apparently the "stepper motor", hot idle control, etc. even after all parts necessary for the correct installation of the system was finally sent to me by Jacobs and installed according to the exact instructions per Jacobs tech support (please refer to my original message on 08/28/98 describing the whole ordeal). This has become totally infuriating as I have much better things to do with my time, so once again I had my tech disconnect the Jacobs system and go back to the factory OEM setup. I have been driving the vehicle for 3 days now and THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS NOT COME ON! Nor is there any noticeable difference in fuel economy or performance as promised by Jacobs in their advertising. This coming Tuesday, I am having the Jacobs system removed and sent back for a refund and go back to life as usual. Maybe it will work for your model/yr. Rover, but it has been a real drag for me. So much for esoteric after market stuff like this. Good luck!
