Shedding some light here: upon starting, each time, the ABS lite will illuminate. Will remain on until the vehicle gets rolling, say 0-20 feet. So in the first few seconds after rolling, ABS computer undertakes 'systems check'. To do this, sensors have to be engaged, doing their 'assessment' at each corner. Upon those inputs being assessed and correlated, the lite extinguishes as the ECU finds all systems 'normal'.
IF it does not find all 'normal', the dash lite will remain on while driving. If both lites-ABS+TC-alight, that indicates that rear sensor out of adjustment. (The TC system: just the ABS operating in reverse, conceptually. The 95's have it on the rear only; new RR has it on all wheels as of 99, AIR.)
Simply press in the sensor, reseat it, into its holder.
The air-gap is likely 'too far' for the pulses to register on the indexed inner hub. It's fairly common for this to develope with time. That sounds like the fix for your truck.

Pedal travel: mine is very short, firm, normal. Yours will benefit from fluid being bled, so that you establish a baseline reference as to date/mileage. Bleeding brakes on ABS is totally different than 'normal old style systems'.
If you are a DIY'r, see the brake bleeding section link below.
Another tip(s): find and drain/refill the swivel housings- each front axle.
..Trans fluid: flush, refill, w/ Dexron III. Same for the transfer case. Many other things to do but these will keep you busy if DIY.
Welcome to the ranks of RRC pilots! -cheers-
