I have a 96 Dicovery. If the battery is dead & you replaced it, the owners manual has the procedure for getting it to work. I had to buy a new unit and it had to be programed by the dealer. They had to hook it up to the computer.(so they said) They did not charge me at all. It took about 20 minutes. Try to find a independent garage that specializes in Land Rovers. $100 bucks for a 20 minute job is crazy. Good luck
