What has the cap to do with temp?Water under pressure has a higher boiling point.Have driven for thousands of miles with loose cap,because otherwise radiator would loose to much coolant.No problem with temp.
have you checked coolant temp with thermometer?could be the
transducer.By the way,do you have to add coolant regularly?
If so,you could have a problem with one of the cilinders-
cracked.Friend of mine had the same sympton in 4.6 rover,
turned out to be a cracked cilinder.
