didn't see your LRX post earlier. Your transfer case pathology sounds like the thrust bearing being worn/worn out. The gear teeth are helical ( which makes them quieter
and more efficient), this also produces an axial load on the gear, which is born by the thrust bearing. This wears out, allowing some play of the transfer shaft. If there's
enough play, the selector can disengage. When it pisses you right off, rebuild the sucker!
