Cklnk, Clunk

Posted by Thom on November 27, 2001 at 19:27:45:

I have been hearing a clunking noise in my drivetrain when I coast to a stop in neutral. Could this be the spline wear I have seen discussed in this forum? If so how long do I have until it must be repaired?
It started after my 12,000 mi trip to Alaska with a full load of camping gear and towing a Chevy Blazer.(I don't suppose that could have contributed to the wear).
What is the best remedy? My truck has 125K and has the original drivetrain components.
When I changed the trans fluid I found about a thimble full of metal shavings in the extension case filter.
Any suggestions, advice or related experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tom
