As you are probably aware, this engine (in 'T' series form) is fitted to the Discovery MPi. -mated to the LT77 and R380.
However there is one significant difference to the Rover 820 car engine which stems from the fact that there is not enough room for the distributor in the LR North South installation. (The bulkhead is in the way). The Mpi uses a 'wasted spark' distributorless system to get round this problem, with a corresponding ECU.
Whether this would apply to a series vehicle I've no idea.
