| Solex choke Posted by mcjack on October 28, 2001 at 19:17:18: I am having a klittle trouble with the fuel system on the Series 2A that I am rebuilding. When the engine is running it is a lttle rough anfd will only run reasonably well if the choke is slightly pulled out. It has a Solex carby and I dismantled a spare on the weekend to clean it, so that I could replace the existing carby to see if it makes any difference. When I did, I noticed that the choke mechanism (apart from being British and therefore relatively complex), is activated by an arm to which the Bowden cable is attached. The travel of this arm is terminated at both ends by a lug built in to the carby body but at the halfway mark, there is a spring loaded ball, which fits into a small hole on the arm. Does this mean that the normal position for the arm is when it is held by the spring loaded ball ? Or is it like other choke mechanisms, ie it is off when the arm is fully forward (towards the radiator) ? I have checked all the books I could find and none has any explanation of the choke mechanism.
