Title Troubles Posted by Brian Waltman on August 26, 1998 at 19:48:14:
I recently purchased a Series IIa from a man in Oklahoma. The vehicle was owned by his brother, who lived in Alabama. The vehicle was originally bought in Alabama in 1969. Prior to 1974, the State of Alabama did not have a tile law. Bill of Sale and Registration were considered the legal proof of ownership. The gentleman I purchased the vehicle from gave me a bill of sale, but no registration. The vehicle has not been registered in over 10 years because it is not roadworthy. I intend to restore the vehicle, but am uneasy about starting without having a title. I called and wrote the State of Alabama, and they have no record of the vehicle (they do not keep records for more than 10 years back). So what am I to do? Without the registration, I cannot title the vehicle. There has got to be a way around this situation. If anyone knows, please share your knowledge with me. I have the will, but don't know the way, to fight through my title troubles.
