Lots of people will tell you that it's just emissions and it doesn't matter, but the 52,500 mile Emissions service can be VERY important to your vehicle. If your fuel injection doesn't function properly, it could do lots of damage to the vehicle, as well as waste fuel and pollute the air.
The 52,500 mile service isn't just changing the oil and air filter (although are certainly good), it's a service to specifically check on the emissions- related features in the vehicle. You don't have to go to a dealer. You can do most of the work yourself if you have at least a bit of mechanical experience or have a local shop do the work for you.
But don't succomb to the idea that "it doesn't matter" and just turn off the light. Do the right thing - you may be very sorry later if you don't.
Good luck, MrG (mrgutwrench@atTEA.net - change "atTEA" to "att" to email)
