G'day

Agree with Peter. The main problem is aeration of the oil which then can cause symptoms of low oil pressure - ie crank shaft damage. Yours is probably ok but if it keeps loosing oil, I'd have it checked out. If it leaks internally, the engine can "run away" burning the engine oil with disasterous results. Keep an eye out for head leaks which can lead to this. If the engine ever does run away, put it in top gear and stall the engine.

Some years ago, Austin 1800 engines in England started blowing up under warranty. BMC started investigating and found that the ones to blow up were owned by fastidious owners who were constantly tinkering and topping up the oil. The ones owned by people who just drove their cars mostly had no problems.

They discovered that the fastidious owners were slightly overfilling their engines leading to the problems of the crank hitting the oil The solution, they recalled all the cars and cut a bit off the bottom of all the dip sticks.

Problem solved.

Michael
