I think the dealer's probably wrong. If you tach's pulsing it's almost 100% certain it's an electrical problem and not mechanical. And there are a number of electrical components that could go wrong. If it was me, I would dtart with checking the plug leads, dizzy cap, rotor. Try and borrow a replacement set for a few days. Then try the coil and ignition module. Maybe the alternator too. Point is, try and work through a process of elimination starting with the most likely first. Will sure help if you have a friend with the same machine so you can switch components and figure out what's faulty. One word of warning - Disco 1 wiring is pretty weird some ways and electrical faults sometimes affect the most unexpected things.
