24V condenser failure (again!!)

Posted by John Roberts on August 28, 2001 at 16:08:41:

Some of you may remember this from last time, circa Oct '2000.
The condenser on my 24v FFR Lightweight has failed again, same symptoms as before. From steady running to an almost fatal misfire, instantly and without warning, this time it wasn't a periodic misfire it was just there. When cool no huge problem but as soon as a little hot the engine would splutter and die.
I know it doesn't sound like the condenser but that's why it took us a month to find the fault last time. 1hr this time, up and running smoothly.

1)Does anyone else have this problem? Not many miles since the last condenser, same failure in new part.

2)Why is the condenser specifically 24v in the FFR models if the voltage is dropped before it gets to the distributer - ie. can I fit a normal condenser as opposed the £27 24v model?

Thanks
