Changing from TD(19J) to TDi 300

Posted by Etienne on August 19, 1998 at 05:23:54:

I am about to change my 160,000 mile 19J Turbo diesel engine and gearbox with a 24,000 mile Tdi 300 Engine and gearbox. this engine has been fitted on a Discovery. My vehicle is a 1990 L/R 90. I have the full service history of the Tdi, and looks like it has been taken well care of. The only misssing part is the power steering pump. The dealer where I am buying the engine from told me that he can fit my own pump. Is this possible? I am also aware of the fact that I need to change my radiator with one having an intercooler, move the engine mounting brackets and modify the silencer.

Does any one know of any other modifications required, or any other problems arising from this sort of conversion?

Would it be better if I kept my gearbox and fitted a flunge between the engine and gearbox?

Any help appreciated

Thanks in advance

Etienne
