automatic transmission problems

Hello all..
I have a 1996 discovery and the automatic transmission is acting up - First it would shift into high gear 4th but ran and shifted throughout very good.
This past weekend the tranny would all of a sudden start slipping and i would lose everything. If i turn the truck off for 2 seconds then start it up again it would drive perfect again for a little while then it would do the same thing. However i still cannot get it to shift into 4th or high gear.
