Jeff - from your second message - have you got a Diesel Disco with rubber doughnut at the diff end?
If so you need to use some M8 (metric) screwed rod to pull out the plug to gain access to the pinion nut.
BTW the nut is a bitch to get off if you only use a socket (use 24mm - it is NOT imperial).
A) Having just removed the same nut from my D90 (4 screws with conventional prop shaft) you need a short length of steel bar (about 18 ins long), with 2 x Ø3/8 holes pitched 2 3/8 ins apart close to one end. Use 2 of the 5/16 UNF screws to fasten to nose of diff and rest free end of shaft against the chassis or suspension, when you put socket on the nut you will not wind up the diff and the nut comes off easily.
B) If you have diesel with rubber do'nut same as A) but approx 84mm pitch with M10 screws.
Does my head in with LR using imperial and metric on the same vehicle!
