The brakes are barely adequate at 50 mph let alone 80. I think the engine you are talking about is about 3.3 litres. This would also do a nice job of destroying the gearbox (and the clutch and the added vibration would probably shake you apart). They would not die straight away but they would not last long with that lump pushing them along. The front springs also would not be too happy about such a heavy engine. The Stage 1 Land Rovers with the V8 engine have the LT95 4 speed Range Rover box. It think you would have to consider using this and you would also be wise to consider Range Rover or Defender axles to get a wider track for greater stability. The disk brakes would also come in handy. In Australia, the Stage 1 was also made with a 3.9litre Isuzu diesel. The Lt95 handles this OK but the engine is noisy and vibrate a lot. They are quite popular though as they go well and are economical. The Australian Army "Perentie" 110 uses the Lt95 and the Isuzu 3.9 diesel in naturally aspirated (4x4) and turbo (6x6). If you went permanent 4x4, you would have to use CV joints at the front (Range Rover - 110). Have fun. Michael |
