D-90 stall Posted by Thomas Bryan on July 27, 1998 at 04:41:33:
I have a 1994 D-90 which has had a very persistent, but intermittent, stalling problem. Typically, it happens at higher RPM's (3,000+) but does not seem to correspond to speed. When it occurs, RPM's fall off with no response to throttle. Then, idle will swing up and down between 100 and 800 RPM's - then many times it will die altogether. When this occurs, the gearbox gets hammered - as the vehicle usually kicks and jerks as it dies. I have spent a very large amount of money at the Rover dealer attemting to resolve this. Repairs have so far included cleaning the gas tank, new fuel pump and filter (ouch), new MAF hose and a new coil. While these have improved the overall performance of the vehicle, the intermittent stalling still has not been resolved. It has 24,000 miles on it. The Rover dealer has no further ideas and does not seem able to resolve this problem, so any input would be appreciated. Regards
