I have a 1974 SIIA (officially too for the buffs) and it does the same thing on occasion. Check your clutch operation, as it warms up the fluid etc it may not completely disengage (rare). Engine conversions (as mine) can affect clutch operation in funny ways. Have heard same complaint from one owner on net and cause was a broken cross shaft! If gearbox not making any other concerning noises or traits (slipping out of gear, shunting or extremely noisy) then best suggestion is to double clutch (as should be anyway really) or do as i do, change into 2nd at 1500 rpm with brief pause in neutral (no need to double clutch). Usually a pain to fix clutch if thats the problem.
