I agree with the 'steemed Mr. Green about finding a new mechanic, but I'd suggest you think about the entire valve train. On my '93 NAS 110 at 115K miles in '94, I had "lifter" noise. The cam and lifter faces were OK, but the lifter hydraulics (internals) were worn so that they wouldn't hold oil - and therefore adjustment onto the pushrod, but I hoped that it wasn't bed enough to cause the noise. The obvious problem was that the rocker arms were very loose on the spindles due to wear. I replaced the rockers and spindles and this helped some, but it took replacing the lifters to entirely get rid of the noise.
The engine ran fine for the next 50,000 miles that I owned it.
You have an entire system there -- don't just throw parts at it.
