Think back to any changes / servicing that you have made.
Faults usually occur from what you did last week.
Check for the earth wire, should be black or with black tracer. Have you had indicators or side lights not functioning correctly? If so check whether there is a common earth for the lights / fuel pump. Is fuel pump inside tank? Need more feed-back.
The extra wire is possibly for another accessory not fitted? With battery disconnected check continuity to chassis unless disconnecting will affect alarm / radio etc.
