Installing an Overdrive - What about the special nut on the

Posted by Kevin on December 29, 2000 at 16:52:38:

I am installing an overdrive to a series3. It appears that to install, you remove the special nut, and then the transfer gear. Then the overdrive pushes over the end of the mainshaft, this giving input to the overdrive. The overdrive then provides two new gear ranges driving the overdrive's replacement to the transfer gear. My question is what about that special nut. Is it not important in holding the mainshaft in place? Without it what stops the mainshaft from moving forward. Or is there something else I must do that I am missing to hold the mainshaft in place.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.
