NAS Defender VINs
This is a partial list consising of Rovers that I have actually seen or
other people have seen and emailed me. If you see any Defenders that aren't
listed here (or that are and have partial information), email me the information and I'll add it to
the list.
A total of 7,059 Defenders have been imported to North America
by LRNA
'93 Defender 110 (NAS)
- 535 were built.
- US versions were numbered LRNA/1 to LRNA/10 and 1 through 500 of 500. (The
first 10 were prototypes).
- Canadian versions were numbered 1 through 25 of 25.
- All were origional white with a full external roll cage, except one that
was painted Black.
- CDN=Canadian
- All build by LR Special Operations
- MSRP: $39,900
- Two reportedly destroyed in 1995 Malibu fires.
- #13 reported to be in Switzerlasnd (as of 11/97)
- 2 others are reported to be in Germany (as of 11/97)
- Land Rover Hornberg (Los Angeles) reportedly converted two D110s to Black
with added luxury features when they were new.
- #468 is in Japan (LRO Jan 1997)
- #499 reportedly destroyed by driving off cliff ~12/95, later spotted in
June 1997 in good shape.
- One on Nantucket (unknown LRNA number) Island reported painted Brown.
Creed Evens reports that this may be a 1989 D110 that was legally imported.
- #100 was rolled (I have seen photographic evidence of this) by 10/98 and
was forsale at that time

Currently, 535 Defenders of this type are listed.
'94 and '95 Defender 90s (NAS)
- Each is supposed to have a number stamped on a plate on the right rear
panel between 1 and about 3149. Four were brought in specially with
non-standard colors and at least one didn't have it's number stamped on it.
Numbers 1 to 10 were marked as LRNA/1 to LRNA/10 (exception #8 was just #8). A
few numbers were never issued.
- Land Rover North America reports 1,468 sold in 1994, 1,571 sold in 1995
(though about 70 were D90 Station Wagons), giving a total of 2,969.
- LRNA imported the following D90s
1994: 1943 US
1994: 87 Canadian
1995: 1191 US
Total:
3221
- Standard colors were Portifino Red, Conniston Green, Beluga Black, Alpine
White, AA yellow and (1994 only) Arles Blue.
- In 1994 there were only 100 Beluga Black models all had leather Seats,
A-Bar, Running Boards, rear seat and surrey top as standard features
- 47 1994 Soft Tops were converted to prototype Station Wagon models.
Reportedly at least 37 were Conniston Green, 2 Arles Blue and 1 Alpine White.
All 47 have VINs between (and including) RA939334 and RA945393.
- 1994 MSRP was $27,900 and in 1995 is was $28,650
- One 1994 and two or three 1995s are reported to have been imported by LR
Hess Rafz, CH and are in Switzerland (as of 11/97)
- A number have been bought back by LRNA under lemon laws. A '95 Beluga
Black (VIN unknown) has been reported to be one.
- LRNA numbers roughly correspond to build order but that is not always
true. In the Registry each vehicle is listed in build order.
Currently, 3221 Defenders of this type are listed.
'95 Defender 90 Station Wagons
- 510 imported to the US by Land Rover North America. None were imported to
Canada
- The numbering is a little screwy. When the owner of LRNA/04 first bought
the Defender, it had a blank number plate. Then LRNA stamped \"LRNA/04\" on
the blank plate. By #40 they were marked #40/500 and so on to #500. I don't
know which D90 Station Wagon was the transition between LRNA/# and #/500. I
also don't know if #1 through 3 still have blank plates or not.
- Colors: Alpine White, Coniston Green, or Arles Blue with White hard
top
- MSRP: $32,000

'97 Defender 90 Automatic Station Wagons and Soft Tops
- LRNA intended to import 1000 Station Wagons and 1500 Soft Tops between
December 1996 and Sept 1997. First was to be 500 Station Wagons, then the 1500
Soft tops starting in April 1997, and ending with 500 more Station Wagons.
- LRNA has published that they imported 1499 Soft Tops and 1000 Station
Wagons (not including the Willow Green's below).
- Colors: Alpine White, Coniston Green, Beluga Black, AA Yellow, Monza Red,
and British Racing Green
It was posted on the the CSO list that the following was the
distribution of Station Wagon colors:
341 Green
326 White
209 Blue
102 Red
I have not been
able to confirm this though.
- One 1997 D90 was sold in Canada.
- Five 1997 D90s are reported to have been imported by LR Hess Rafz, CH
and are in Switzerland (as of 11/97)
- MSRP: Soft Top: $32,000 and Station Wagon: $34,500
- Currently, 2492 Defenders of this type are listed.
'97 Defender 90 Automatic Outfitted Willow Green Station Wagons
- LRNA import 300 of these and is claimed that these will be the last
D90s. We've heard this line from LRNA before, so who knows if these are
really the last. In a 20 October 1997 press release the president of LRNA,
Charles R. Hughes, said, '...as current passive restraint regulations
prohibit us from selling the vehicle in 1998. We continue to work on a
solution but have no definitive plans to announce at this time.'
- These are standard Station Wagon models that have a few extras bolted on
- Roof Rack with diamond plate on steps
- Brush Bar
- Diamond Plate Wing (fender) protectors
- Diamond Plate rear quarter panel protectors
- Diamond Plate on rear and side steps
